McKnight Road Safety Improvement Project

Ramsey County is planning improvements for McKnight Road. The work will occur in 2020 on McKnight Road in St. Paul, Maplewood and North St. Paul between Pond Avenue and 7th Avenue. A portion of the road is planned to be re-striped to a three-lane roadway (currently an undivided four-lane roadway). The project will also include a review of pedestrian crossings and traffic signal upgrades within the project area, and a 4 to 3 Lane Conversion, also called a “road diet,” (a type of traffic calming measure), according to Ramsey County, and becoming more common across the United States and in Minnesota.

McKnight Road Pedestrian Ramps Installation

Crews will begin installing new accessible pedestrian ramps on McKnight Road next week between:

  • Pond and Burns avenues in Saint Paul and Maplewood.
  • Stillwater and 7th avenues in Saint Paul, Maplewood and North St. Paul.

Work on the pedestrian ramps and new crossing refuges will last through mid-August. Once pedestrian work is complete, a new, smooth layer of pavement will be added to McKnight Road and the road will be restriped as a three-lane road
