FEMA has awarded North St. Paul Fire Department $40,000 as part of the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Grant Program. The Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response Grants (SAFER) was created to provide funding directly to fire departments and volunteer firefighter interest organizations to help them increase or maintain the number of trained, "front line" firefighters available in their communities. There is no local match requirement for this grant. Therefore, the full grant amount under this program for Recruitment and Retention will be 100% Federally funded. This year, the Fire Department has been awarded two of three FEMA Grant applications submitted, and are still in the running for the third FEMA Grant for the Safe Haven Program.
