City Council Authorizes Purchase of City Owned Trash and Recycling Containers
On Tuesday, July 2, 2019 City Council authorized the purchase of trash, recycling and yard waste containers for the City. This will be a benefit to residents as a hauler will no longer need to charge a “cart rental fee”. The new carts carry a 10-year full replacement warranty. The vendor will provide delivery to each residence. Extra container inventory will be stored and maintained by the City’s contracted hauler. This also prevents the need to change carts when the hauling vendor changes. City staff has been working with Rehrig Pacific Company to purchase the carts as well as Ramsey County on a $100,000 recycling cart grant opportunity.
Delivery of the new carts will begin on or around August 19, 2019 and will be completed by August 30, 2019 at the latest.
The City’s current contract for solid waste collection with Republic Services is set to expire on August 31, 2019. City staff is in the process of reviewing collection costs with haulers to establish a new 5-year contract that will provide the best service and cost for North St. Paul residential customers.
In the near future, a new customer service line will be established and become effective September 1, 2019. Also, a webpage will be set up to for the public to receive the most updated information.
