The 2019 Northeast Metro Natural Gas Project construction activities are nearing completion, with this year’s construction activities expected to conclude in October 2019. As such, crews are diligently working to complete construction activities for the year. In the next month, crews will continue restoring previous work areas, including paving roadways. Starting this coming Tuesday, crews plan to pave South Avenue East, between McKnight and 7th Avenue, and South Avenue East, between Margaret and Henry streets. Map of Paving Area.

Project Overview

Xcel Energy will replace approximately eight miles of natural gas infrastructure in Ramsey County. The Northeast Metro Natural Gas Project will be constructed as part of our commitment to system revitalization.

This project will begin at Century Avenue N., south of Larpenteur Avenue, and end at County Road B and Rice Street. The project begins and ends at existing natural gas facilities at these locations.

Project Schedule

Work on the Metro Xcel Gas Project is underway.  Below is the construction schedule information related to the
existing work areas:

  • Century Avenue, between South and Holloway Avenue is expected to continue through June 2019.
  • South Avenue, between Century Avenue and Park Row is expected to continue into June 2019.
  • County Road B, between Stanich Street/Court and 7th Street is expected to continue into June 2019.
  • Century Avenue, N., south of Larpenteur Avenue, to County Road B and White Bear Avenue continuing through November 2019
  • County Road B and White Bear Avenue to County Road B and Rice Street—May 2020 through November 2020

The anticipated completion of the project, including restoring work areas and bringing the project into service, in fall 2020.
