The North St. Paul Citizens Academy offers an opportunity to learn about the various aspects of local government in North St. Paul. The program features a mix of classroom discussions as well as hands-on field experiences. Sessions are geared to help participants understand the budget process and how property taxes are calculated; discuss the important role of planning and zoning; experience what it is like to be a police officer and firefighter; and learn what it takes to keep streets and utilities maintained and the power on. The Academy is not only intended to provide an educational experience for participants, but also enhance and encourage future and ongoing community involvement.
